71 FI Manual square.
Now it doesn't start at all.  I will hear a few attempts at ignition and 
then a big woomph from the exhaust and then nothing but the smell of 
gasoline.

I used a spare spark plug to check the spark and it is good (at least on 
#4, the easiest to reach).  For some reason it is just getting way too 
much gas.

What do I do next.
