This car was purchased in Germany, where it stayed for many years before being brought to Virginia when it's owner moved to the United States. It changed hands to a lady in Ohio in the late 1990s who used it as a fun fair weather driver. I bought it in 2002 and have performed a strip-down restoration. The car is 100% bone stock inside and out. All trim pieces, buttons, decals, trunk liner, etc. are there. This car was in very good condition, but in need of restoration to be 100%. My intention was to create a full point show car and all restoration decisions have gone to that goal. All metal problems were replaced with correct donor parts provided by the guys at The Dbd. They were cut in and expertly metal-worked. The car's paint was stripped, primed, and painted with three coats of original mix VW Pearl White. The motor is original and complete with the original single side-draft carburator. The motor has 50,000 miles on it and runs well. 

I have reluctantly decided to sell the Variant and focus on my Beetle and Karmann Ghia Convertible. The body is now rock solid, complete, and at least as good as new. It is at the point of interior reinstall. I have all of the original interior, which is in excellent condition with the exception of the fabric center panels (I have the replacement fabric for those). All of the original Interior is here...headliner, carpet, door and side panels, straps, etc...all here, expertly removed and preserved. If I keep the car for myself I will assemble stock. If a person wanted to do anything other than stock the car is in the perfect state to go that direction. For that reason I am first offering the car for sale in pre-assembly state. If it does not sell in a reasonable period of time in that state I will assemble as stock and sell it.
