The timer is used to set a time, up to 24 hours in advance, for the
Eberspächer gas-electric heater to run and pre-heat the car. So if your
car has such a heater you would be able to use this clock.

On the VW 411 and 412, where Eberspächer gas-electric heater boosters
came standard, this kind of clock was sold as option code M557.
