I suppose that's possible, they are tight but probably not sealed REALLY
well, theoretically they are under pressure from the fan blowing heat thru
them so I wouldn't think anything would get drawn in though....

Are the steel flex hoses tight where they meet the body?  As the air flow
under the car changes at low speed, you might be pulling engine compartment
air into that joint ever so briefly.
