[T3] Oooh that Smell!

First, do check for leaks from where the pipe through the lower heat
exchanger exits the shroud of the heater box, while idling. It may not be a
cracked pipe in there. You may just need the repair stub fix.

Well it sounds like I need to find some other good heater boxes, that could
be tough... most are pretty rusted out these days and I wouldn't want to buy
one of these NOS... cause if they are still around NOS after all these years
with demand there is its probably because they have a leak in them you cant
see... just like mine! :-)

I seldom drive this car this late into the winter, the roads are clean again
here but this week is probably it. Used the Gas heater this morning to get
me warm as it was about 25 out... boy, with 25W50 ya sure want to keep the
car in a warm garage to start it in the morning, I even ran a quick errand
at noon to keep the oil warm!

If anyone has any really good heater boxes at a good price let me know, I
don't need all the dressing on them but I do need solid metal and good round
outlets.

Thanks,

Keith

I had that happen big time on my type 3 and didn't hear any untoward exhaust
noises either, but when I drove it to the shop to install the new heat
exchangers I had all the windows open and my head out the window, the
exhaust smell was so bad, and that was with the heater valves closed!

Even back in the day (early 70's) I can remember changing several heat
exchangers for the same reason.
