As a matter of interest, Frank, what year Type 3s do you think the rods came
out of?

Subject: [T3] push-rod length...

Hi there
My original question concerned two extra rods in my T-3 stash...each
curiously, (as far as I remember), unmolested. Before I moved them to a
more sectionally accurate box for organizational reasons, I though I'd make
certain that they were at least close to "factory specs." I couldn't find
any reference number for these in the later Bentley version of the "factory"
manual and therefore the question. I had remembered that this has been
posted before, but apparently I had not recorded it where it should have
been...next to the schematic...which shows no dimension, (nor does the
commentary). I have always set my pedal by feel, noting the 1mm distance by
hand. And, I have had a failure, incidentally, (many years ago), when the
rear line, passing the driver's side tunnel, rusted through. Everything
worked well to get me home safely...fronts and hand brake worked
marvelously, if timidly.
So, based upon the various reports as to what this measurement, (necessary
or not), might be, I went back to mine, under a pile of Porsche parts, and
measured them. Each of these, while notably different in thread exposure in
the casting, measured 149.5, +/- .5. I don't care who's right here, by the
way, (if there is such a thing), but I thought I'd report back with these
findings.
As a side note to this, I have been restoring my 356 for a good while now
and I have, I suppose, become used to the superfluous and accurate
renderings of these sorts of details in the Porsche workshop manual, and I
now get a bit exasperated when I can't find simple dimensions in the T-3
books. I suppose it's the nature of what was expected of the drivers of
these vehicles at that time.
Best regards
FE Meek
