That particular connection has no barb; it's just a smooth tube. So
sealing there is a bit more difficult. I've never had trouble there, but
maybe I tightened mine there a bit more than you did.

For places where you don't mind a more permanent style clamp, I like the
OE style pinch clamps with 1 or 2 "tension loops" that would help with the
problem you're describing. Otherwise, we're depending on the resilience of
the outer jacket and inner tube to maintain the sealing pressure.

My feeling is that the major drawback of the worm gear clamps is that they
don't form a smooth circle: The region around the "buckle" can give uneven
pressure.
