A sad day indeed. Russ will never be forgotten, and our VW friendships will
always be a better community because of what Russ passed onto us. I always
felt fortunate that I was able to meet Russ and talk with a man so sharing
as he. I could not imagine how he spent his entire life turning a VW wrench,
then "retire" and continue to help anyone who needed VW help. Talk about VW
dedication; he wrote the book.

Russ donated his services to the 2010 invasion (as he always had done) with
the offer to rebuild a set of heads. I won this auction, and sent my heads
off to Russ for a rebuild with no pressure to get them done quickly. As the
year progressed, his health was decreasing, but this winter, Russ got out to
his shop and rebuilt my heads as promised. After they were done and shipped,
he told me it took him so long because his health would only let him stand
for short periods of time. With all the health issues he had to be going
thru, he still followed through to deliver me my rebuilt heads as promised.
That's the kind of guy Russ was.

Rest in Peace, Russ. You earned it.
My heart goes out to Marilyn and her family.
