I've been cleaning up a 73 pan this weekend and the pan gasket isn't
much of a gasket at all. It's kind of like a rubbery plumbers putty and
it looks like there's was a foam strip along the front with it. Really
sticky and a pain to get off. No nails in the pan at all. I'm guessing
VW changed to this kind of seal at some point over the rubber seal.
Will a rubber seal be fine putting it back together?
I had 1 come with the car, but the front corners didn't want to cooperate.
I ended up using D-19 tape instead. I've used it before on a couple of
cars, and had no complaints. It's easier to set up the front corners with too.
So far I've separated 4 bodies and pans, it's not that big of a job.:^)
I'm using something similar to rebuild my air boxes with.
Keith, I've got most of the glass installed in the t-34. Just waiting on
some glass run channel to install the door glass. : ) See my link to see that
I've been out in the shop ( not posting much). Jim, I found a master cy
linder for you to rebuild (sorry it took so long, but I've been busy with
other stuff ;^) ). I'll send it out (along with some hose samples) in the next
couple of days. I'm in no hurry for it.
