[T3] Oil - the proof is in the pudding

As I have mentioned here before I have a 1966 Beetle that I have had
for 14 years. During that time I have driven the living $%#$@ out of
it. Two speeds, wide open and stop. I drive it as fast as it will
go on the highway on the hottest days of the year, and in and around
the city (Toronto) it gets driven like it was in a race to keep from
being run over by everything you can imagine.

Last fall, even though it was running perfectly, I decided to take
the engine out and have my expert buddy (he rebuilt my
http://www.oxfordautosales.com/67type3/67type3.html" Type 3 engine)
take it apart and reseal it as it was starting to leak a fair amount of oil.

He checked the whole engine and found absolutely so sign of wear
anywhere. Even the valves were perfect, which is amazing for a
1300. We fixed what turned out to be three minor oil leaks,
installed some new engine tin and put her back together, ready for
another 14 years of abuse. I have always used Castrol 15/40 diesel
oil along with a half quart of Lucas engine additive, and changed it
after no more than 1000 miles. Needless to say I will continue to
use the same stuff in the 66 Beetle as well as in my latest project,
a 1978 Beetle convertible.

I am 65 as well, and I am going to retire the day before they plant me.
