> I THINK it's probably a grounding issue.

I installed a homemade grounding strip on the front wall under the dash to provide grounding for the instruments. I grounded each of the instrument clusters and it makes a convenient connection point for testing as well.

I cannot count on the gauge prongs to ground consistently.
