[T3] The Republican Regulator

With the electronic regulator appearing to take a dive quickly now, Ive
pulled out my regulator collection.
I have 6 old regulators, 2 have bad power resistors (from corrosion) and 2
have bad diodes.
One has the little circuit board inside it, that one looks really good, a
couple others do too.

Im thinking of trying out the one with the board in it, after all. without
an iffy diode and with a good power resistor what else is there to go wrong 
If the contacts are good?

What is it that sets the regulated voltage in there too?

I really don't want to try out another electronic one as the FLAPS wont take
them back once they leave the store and I could be out another $40.
