[T3] Lifters that wont rotate

This is a webcam 9550 with new lifters, both bought with one of the kits he
sold.  He says that its defiantly not a hydraulic cam as they haven't used
any since way before I bought the kit.

The Rockers are a 1.7L set on 2L Porsche heads, again, this is a setup they
sold regularly.  I did all the geometry myself so I know that's set up
properly.  Just really weird that the exaust lifters aren't rotating...
weird!

Hmmmm, Porsche 914 2.0L GA case. There was definitely not a hydraulic cam
in there from Porsche.

I had to dig into the long--term storage side of my brain on this one. I
have seen this in two other instances which were not related to a hardened
or hydraulic cam.

The first was severely out of alignment pushrods caused by aftermarket
solid-style rockers that were installed completely wrong. But there was
other damage after that fiasco.

The other was a situation was a customer was running some used lifters on a
new Web Cam camshaft. The fix was getting a set of matched lifters from Web
Cam.

Web Cam does require a matched set of lifters for certain performance
grinds on their solid lifter and hydraulic cams. If you are using a
different manufacturer, perhaps they require a specific alloyed lifter as
well.

I would contact your engine builder and get the exact specs and
manufacturer of your cam. Then contact the manufacturer directly to
troubleshoot. If the builder doesn't know, then just assume they used a
hardened or hydraulic cam.

The one nice thing about running hydraulic lifters is you can use them on
pretty much any cam without issue, you just can't run solids on a hydraulic
cam.

In my experience, reusing Type 4 solid lifters and reusing hydraulic Type 4
lifters are not encouraged. My local machine shop who does my customer's
motors won't warranty a motor if there are used lifters or a used cam. They
always replace them with new like-branded lifters. BUT, Rabe might know
something I don't know. From what I understand, in the past, sub-par cams
needed original VW lifters to keep them from running out early. Essentially
sacrifice the lifter to save the cam. Perhaps that is what Jake is
referring to, but I don't like speaking for him. :)
