Oh didn't know the t-1s from this era had then too. Guess because all the
bugs I had or have were 71 or earlier.

The extra port was not a FI thing; even carbed cars had it in '72-3. 
The completely different crankcase ventilation system in '72-3 leads 
to LOTs of problems when people try to convert those engines to carbs 
but don't think about the ventilation.

Dennis is lucky that he still has his original '72-3 Type 3 heads.

The temp sensor boss was for FI only, but later FI beetles also had 
it. For some silly reason VW put that head on the right side for the 
FI beetles. That leads to the occasional mis-assembled Type 3 engine 
by people not that familiar with Type 3s.
