Buna-N is one of the most common O-ring compounds, but it's not the 
only common one. I'm not sure what you'll find in your hardware 
store. Ask them. If they know it's Buna-N, by all means try them.

You'll never find Viton in a hardware store. They cost 2-3 times as 
much.

It's certainly possible to find O-rings that are not compatable with 
gasoline.
