Actually, the ZV/JCU 4R3 was not used in 1965. 1965 1500S models used two different distributors:
1. 311-905-205D through engine number 784309.
2. 311-905-205E the rest of the year.

See this scanned page from my parts book: http://blef.org/vw/t3/distributors.jpg

Keith has the correct distributor for his car. The only other one a car from that time would have had from the factory is 111-905-205M (ZV/JU 4R3), which was used on single carb N models.

The low compression 1500 (as in, M249 non-domed 64-65 1500S models) used the same distributor as the high compression versions. See the ZV/JCU 4R3 pictured here: http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/625180.jpg

P.S. The ZV/JCU 4R3 isn't too hard to come by and doesn't seem to me like the sort of thing that should command a premium price. Over the last couple years I've picked up two very nice ones at swap meets for less than $20 each. Don't get suckered out of your hard earned cash, folks. People outside TheSamba don't even know what these distributors are from. Besides, one year only doesn't necessarily mean in high demand. Grumble grumble grumble...
