Yes, the southern cars here in the humid areas rust out in different spots
sometimes, like THRU the roof! Humidity is pretty bad too but I don't think
it tops the salt.

I know it's normal to not use your Type 3s through the winter in the frozen
areas of the USA.

Max was saying he had a small amount of rust in the top corner of his Type 3
front fenders, where the wax sponges are, and he says he lives in Upper NY
State too, like Keith - I assume his car must have been put away each
autumn, or brought in from a dry state if it only has that small amount of
rust. I also wanted to stress the role that humidity plays in rusting,
since we have been having conversations about that recently.

If you
want to see real rust, look at the UK forum workshop
http://www.vwtype3and4club.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6588 at one of
our UK Type 3s, but there are problems in many areas in the USA too, mostly
due to salt on roads. You must have that locally - Keith from Albany NY
doesn't drive his Type 3s in winter because of it.

Keith isn't the only one that does this. Quite a few of us do that, as we
don't like replacing metal every so many years. I know my own cars get
"parked" for the winter.
