I'd be glad to go that route, but I don't know any nice small local shops, and it's pain enough going to the big chains with simple/standard requests.

Tire dilemma resolved.  The place I tried to get the Nexens from found some Federal SS-657s at $64 each, so I switched my order to those instead.
