Regarding gasahol, there are extremeists at both ends of the 
spectrum. Personally, I've never had a problem, or seen a problem, 
with it.

OTOH, scientifically, it's not at all clear that growing corn to turn 
into ethanol is energy effective at all. It may actually take more 
than a gallon of petroleum to produce the energy equivalent in 
ethanol. What is clear is that companies like Archer Daniels Midland 
(ADM) stand to make a lot of money on this, so they lobby for the 
price supports and ethanol requirements.
