[T3] Corn Fuel and Type III engines

What most do not know is that most all gas auto now are flex fuel after a certain date even if they don't have it marked on the body etc.
Its mostly a program change in fuel curve and a few other things that was done early on basically lets the computer know how to handle the change in oxygen content in the fuel when the sensors pick it up and keeps the check engine light from coming on.
Cars later on are already programed to handle increased amounts as a precaution because some states run 10% and others 20%and maybe more, I can not verify that, E85 is just 85% denatured ethanol.
Arizona was running 10% last I noticed (Beating out the 15% MTBE (Methyl tert-butyl ether) which stunk terribly). Arizona has been since I was just out of high school.

I did some testing on my 99 Chevy Z71 (Non FLEX Fuel)just to see how much it would take to set the light on it was almost a 50/50 mix with E85 and low grade ( I believe its 87 here) that finally set it off .
I tested from an almost empty tank each time. I have had it since new so have a really good feel for the amounts.
I live in Castle Rock Colorado and one observation was a noticeable power increase as more and more E85 was used.
I can only attribute this to the added Oxygen, as I know its supposed to be the opposite affect that E85 has on things.

Just my 50cents worth,

Yea, guess what happens if you put E85 in your flexfuel vechicle? You lose your power AND your gas mileage! You cant give them away in NY right now, there's no E85 around anymore and what's left is pricey... and nobody wants to buy a vehicle with the complication of that fuel delivery system.

Heck, I notice a drop off in gas mileage just going to the winter blend gas!

You're right, Jim.

I live in corn country and we have ethanol plants in many parts of our
State. We've done a lot of analysis (I'm a financial advisor), and I
can tell you that it's NOT efficient. Without gov't subsidy, it would
never make it.

Just my .02.
