The squarebacks that I'm used to have a completely different latch,
so I'm not at all familiar with your part. With luck, there will be a
different latch that you can use. Maybe it's earlier, maybe it's from
a notch, like you say.

Worst case, could you drill different mounting holes in the latch
that you have?

Well, the sound wasn't working for me (might have been on my end), but it
looks like the hole pattern is off. Was this latch the original to the car?
How about the apron strip that the latch mounts to? That latch assembly
that you have, wasn't used on a Notch, as they use a recessed latch with 2
screws holding it to the apron (has a hole in the apron strip, and the latch
assembly sits inside it). It does however look correct for a Fastback. It
might be a case of early, versus late parts here IF either one was replaced.

If everything else fits (trunk latch pin lines up), it might be worth
drilling new mounting screw holes for the one you have. I do know that the cable
gets adjusted kind of strange, as the latch is a double slider. Meaning,
that you have to have some tension on the latch and cable, before it'll
work. I believe this a safety thing, in that IF the cable ever breaks, you can
still open the trunk lid (the Notch got this feature too).

Another option would be contacting Brian Gardner (aka 66311 on the Samba),
as he's parting out a 70 Fastback, and might have a Fastback latch you can
get. I don't have his e-mail address, otherwise I'd give it to you. He's
located just outside St.Louis, so it (the part or parts) wouldn't have to
travel too far.
I hope this helps.
