Sorry, been too busy to reply to this, but we're getting some long 
needed rain today, so I've got a little more time. Read on:

That's a perfectly reasonable way to do it. I think there was even a 
NOS complete Type 3 engine on ebay a few years ago, that appeared to 
have been crated and shipped like this.

As others have said, 18 goes to the starter terminal that gets power 
only when the starter is cranking. You can tape that wire off or 
ground it, but you MUST NOT connect it to the starter terminal that's 
hot all the time.

One of those first 2 must be for the cyl head temp sensor. I'm not 
sure about the 2nd of that pair. The second sound like the 2 that get 
power from the main power relay. There would have been a pair of 
short white wires that come into the LR corner of the engine 
compartment, just forward of the pressure sensor. Since your car had 
been converted to carbs, those might have gotten cut off.

'72s for California  also got special stuff related to enabling the 
vacuum advance only in top gear. If your harness donor car was from 
CA, you might have those connections, but I'd expect you to have even 
more, too.
