I would have to agree with this. I was going to comment but being that I drive a 72 less is certainly not the issues here ;-)
I do rather like the in-between size. I don't know the years they were on but they are still visible compared the earlier ones that basically are not visible from todays cars and the amount of light pollution they tend to give off.

'Less may be more' in some cases - jewellery, hair-gel (definitely), but not
when safety and visibility to other drivers is concerned.   You wouldn't put
tiny brake lights on to match, would you?
