[T3] Crankey car again!

Well with the Notch and Crate running much smoother with the larger jets now
the 71FI was the worst running Car I have, and THAT had to change! In doing
some noodling around I had to crank it with the FI off, so it wouldn't
start.
Under this condition, with a good strong battery, the starter latched up
again and wouldn't release! It just sat there and cranked (at full cranking
speed)
Until I disconnected the battery and it let go. We conjectured on why this
would happen with dying batteries but now it has happened with a fresh one.
How does the solenoid fail in such a manner? It did this consistently and
when I replaced it it did not appear to be physically sticky at all, the
spring felt fine.

Apparently, when the engine starts it kicks it loose and it stops, but if
the engine doesn't start. it wont stop. The replacement seems OK at the
moment but really. how does it jam so badly with a good battery?
