This is an automatic - probably accounts for a bit longer 0-60 time.  I
looked up old road tests and a 1600 Variant was 20 sec for 0-60 time.  As
the Variant is a bit heavier than the Fastback, and was twin carbed, 8 sec
for a TLE sounds about right.  Generally as the engine loosens up,
performance improves up to a limit, when wear has got significant.

Very interesting information in this.  I noticed it said 0-60 in like 18
seconds.  I think mine is a little faster than that. Back in the day when I
had the old 1641 with the Webber progressive carb on it I would go to the
drag race with my friends and they would always be some smart mouth with a
Vega, pinto, or Japanese car that would want to race while my V-8 buddies
were racing. So like every teenage boy I took them on the challenge. During
the 1/8 of a mile I would turn high 12s and low 13s approaching 70.  On
another occasion I had her up to 95 MPH on the interstate.  The stock FI
engine doesn't seem much slower that that one did. But maybe speed seem
faster when you get older.  You feel so investable as a teen. Am I'm I
remembering this right? Could a fastback do this with this engine?  I'm
going on nearly 30 year old memory here.
