[T3] I miss my Aircooleds in the winter!

winter and into  spring. That way you can drive where you want to go without
worries. You  can even park at the tight front spot at the grocery store ;-)
Then come  spring - sell the car (there's always a demand for cheap cars) 
and
properly  fix your VW... which sounds like another block is in order.
 
 
I do have to agree with Dave on this one. It's either a replacement car,  
or an engine swap. Especially since you'll be wanting to keep your T-3s out 
of  the salt. It might get cold next week, but with the way this winter has 
been  going, you'll be needing that cap in place some days, and get away with 
it off  others. Not a fun way to deal with winter at all. :O
