There should be the C-pillar nut there already in a '71. What we tend to
get problems with are the lower mountings that rust out. That depends on
your climate!
I'm not sure if there's room for a reel under the seat without a bit of
engineering - no problem with a lap and diagonal static apart from having to
adjust it. Maybe (other) Dave fitted the reel behind the seat?

I installed the retractable belts from a Mk2 Golf in our 1971 Squareback.
As I recall it was fairly simple, but I think the center receivers ended up
a little higher than expected. I also mounted a set for the rear seat, but
that required welding in a nut on the C pillar.

Sounds good but I thought the hole already in the c pillar already had
threads in them. But then again that may be a difference between a square
and a fasty. I will look however and make sure I'm right or not.
