Looking on the web, particularly at klockit.com, I don't find
anything listed as "long shaft." Did that refer to the length of the
threaded bushing, or to how far the hand shafts extended out past the
end of the threaded bushing?
I think I could make a very small buck converter that would step the
car voltage down to 1.5 V with little extra power consumption. I
think this could be done in the space of an AA or N battery (which is
I'm what they all use.)
I'm also wondering if a radio controlled clock (automatic setting via
NIST radio) would work under our dash. These units sell for ~$10
more.

I'm afraid that didn't get me anywhere, but I found your thread,
without photos, when I did a google search on long shaft clock kit.
