Yes, some of the early cars had different jets on each side, I really wonder
how that could work? The 64 1500S's were listed has having smaller jets,
.125 as well, boy... they must run bad on today's gas!

That was my thinking too. The excellent gas mileage does suggest a lean
mixture. I wonder if there's a white dust on the rear bumper - I found that
on mine when running a bit lean, and some hesitation on pick-up. I now
adjust the CO to 3%, which seems about right.

I wondered if both carbs were doing good work - the balance pipe does make
up at higher rpm for problems lower down. On our Sea blue Variant, I had
one choke not opening due to a bad joint at the ceramic insulator, and it
ran fine at higher rpm. I'm sure it wouldn't be anything as big as that,
with Keith's meticulous approach to rebuilding carbs and trouble-shooting,
but it might be small differences. ISTR some of those early twin carbs even
had different jets on the two carbs.

Hi there Keith
If it runs well above 3K, then I would say the main circuit is good. The
idle circuit appears, from your descriptions, to be the culprit. But, that
said, I am a Weber guy so I can speak only from this perspective. The
physics should be similar.
Do you have an EGT?
This should help you dial these in. Aircraft Spruce has a Falcon gauge for
about a "C" note, 400-900*F, I believe.
If you want the link, let me know.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
FE Meek
