Type 3 seats are completely different from all other VW seats. You 
can install early low back seats, but then you lose the very real 
safety factor that the headrest gives. The '69-71 Type 3 seats are 
the very best quality and design that VW produced.

If you're willing to alter the floor mounting, there are other 
options, as John has done in Sophy, but he used newer highback seats 
from some later car, to replace the low back seats that came with his 
'66.
