I woke up this morning to a grey, wet, rainy day, a perfect day for
an acid test of any ignition system. So....

First, I drove the Square with the "good" Bosch rotor on some
errands, to make sure it still seemed good. It drove just as well as
it did yesterday.

Then I swapped in the "bad" Taiwanese rotor and continued driving.
The missing started up right away. Just as before, the car would run
pretty much okay if I could get it up to speed, but it stumbled
coming from idle. The worst time is trying to start from a stop, when
the rpms are slow and the load is rather high. The slow rpm means a
hotter spark and the high load means higher pressure in the spark
plug gap when the spark is trying to jump the gap. It take more
voltage to jump the gap then.

So the confirmation test has been done. The result is that the Taiwan
rotor has failed in some way that I don't understand, but it's no
longer usable. I can take it to physics one of these days and maybe
find where it has failed, but for now I've just marked it BAD.

Just another lesson leqarned the hard way, that you should always buy
Bosch. The cheap stuff doesn't pay off. Everyone here should be
familiar with the Bosch logo, so you know what to look for on your
ignition parts. Accept no substitutes.
