Back in the mid-50's when I was stationed at the Navy Seaplane Base (HS-1
and HS-5) my best buddy, whose parents lived in Miami, owned a 1952 Jaguar
XK 120.

We drove that car up and down U.S. Highway 1, every weekend that we didn't
have duty, for 2-1/2 years.

The gas tank was in and out of the car, almost every week.
I "brazed" the pinholes on that tank so many time it looked more yellow
than silver (steel).
Seems like every week we would pull the tank, remove the gas, fill the tank
with water, braze, & re-install the tank. We got pretty good at the
temporary "fix".
But we had several small "explosions" from residual gas fumes, too.

It probably had more "flushing" water through it, than gasoline.
BTW. The engine would only run well on "white" gas or Sunoco premium high
test.
