Actually, Variants/Squarebacks through 1965 used larger diameter rear wheel cylinders than the later Squarebacks.  As Dave notes, in 1965 they were 23.8mm or 15/16" (1964 too, but the pistons have different width channels for the brake shoes), and 1962-1963 were even larger, at 25.4mm or 1".

The correct cylinders for this car are 361611067A, and yes, they're the same as Super Beetle fronts, so they're quite easy to find new.  But unless yours are severely pitted, why not just rebuild them?  Rubber cups are readily available for cheap at your local NAPA as part number UP3535, or as part of a kit with a spring and dust seals as UP513.
