Hey!  You know what else causes those symptoms?  When you have the #1 and #2 plug wires swapped!
I did mention it was late and I was tired, right?  DOH!

To replace the left head, you probably removed the distributor. I'm 
going to guess that you didn't get it installed ALL the way back down 
into engagement with the drive gear. That will put the timing all 
wrong, or perhaps it's just not turning at all. Either way, it could 
give you these symptoms.

Just a guess.
