[T3] Starting Problem

I had to add shims under the rocker arm last time I adjusted it.  That worked for about two more weeks then ran out of adjustment again.  At that point I knew it was done so I unplugged the #3 injector and ran on 3 cylinders for a week.  Talk about having no acceleration!

In the picture that dark area around the valve on the side closest to the intake isn't a shadow - that's the inside of the exhaust port.

I don't have any idea where this head came from.  There's not a VW mark on the casting, and it appears to be a pretty soft alloy.  The replacement appears to be genuine and looks pretty new so I guessing it's a recent Mexico casting.

In a few weeks I'll start collecting parts to build a whole new motor.  I figure that way I can just swap it in on a Saturday then start rebuilding this one at my leisure so it's ready for the next swap in another 5 years or so. :)

Hmm.  It was late and I was tired when I put the distrubutor back in.  It
felt right, but I'll double check that this evening.

PS: Here is the pic of the valve as promised.  You might not want to look at
this if you just ate and own an old VW.

To replace the left head, you probably removed the distributor. I'm
going to guess that you didn't get it installed ALL the way back down
into engagement with the drive gear. That will put the timing all
wrong, or perhaps it's just not turning at all. Either way, it could
give you these symptoms.

Just a guess.
