[T3] distributors...

True, the German 009 is a quality built distributor . The Mexican and Chinese built units are a crap shoot. Some advance more than others. In any event, even the best 009 lacks the curve of the correctly matched distributor. And if memory serves me right, the correct distributor also retards the timing on the number three cylinder to help prevent over heating of it.

Subject: [T3] distributors...

Hi there
With Solexes and a stock engine, the German 009 is a perky and easily set choice, particularly with the Pertronix module. An 019 cast iron unit would be my first choice, but the German 009 is also very reliable, as Mr. Fye has implied.
Clearly, they are not the best choice for most built-up engines and obviously not even an option for FI, but they're not the boogeyman they often are labeled. Their shortcoming is a very limited, (20*), curve. So, the initial setting needs to be more advanced, (even at sea level), than other dizzys with greater curves, the 010, 018, 022 and BR4. But, none of those are optimal for stock, carbed VW engines with stock, or near stock cams.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
FE Meek
