I got that information from a genuine VW workshop manual (not the Bentley).  That section has a publication date of November 1967.  Here, I've scanned two pages that may be of interest to you:

Note that they refer to the 1967 12V generators as being "of the early cut-in type."

The early early (until mid-December 1962) T3s had a larger crankshaft pulley than the later ones, so they would have had a different drive ratio compared to the later 6V (2.3:1) configurations.  I can't come up with the size difference immediately, and I've got to run out the door in a minute.  After that point, the crankshaft pulleys were the same size throughout the whole run of T3s (at least through 1969, which is the upper limit of my experience), with only changes being made to the timing marks.  6V generators (all of them, from what I can tell -- in addition the pre-1967 12V optional generators) had 96mm pulleys, compared to 100mm on the 1967-on 12V generators.

Doing the math on this is left as an exercise for the reader.
