They are different diameters between squares and fastys, as well as 
different diameters and lengths between swing and IRS, and the 
indexing is different, square from fasty, in either style.

The Z-bar was only in swing axle squares for a couple years.

Interesting, in all the discussions I've ever hear about this, it 
never occurred to me that anyone might be thinking about THAT torque. 
I had always been thinking about the torque about the crankshaft 
axis. The rear crossbar certainly works nicely against both kinds.

Now that I think about it this way, it make sense that that early 
rear mount is offset to the right. That makes it active against both 
torques. Interesting....

While genuine VW VMs may be hard to find, there are probably 
aftermarket ones to be had. OTOH, the '72-3 VM was different, and 
there may never have been a proper aftermarket VM made for those ATs.
I have a few spares of each, but I'm not inclined to sell them as 
long as I own my AT Type 3s.
