If your dist has 2 vacuum hoses, attached at both ends, then your '73 
engine got the '72 IAD transferred to it. The first thing you should 
do is check the retard part of the '72 can. If it's bad, which is 
common, then try disconnecting that hose and following the '73  
tuneup proceedure. If it's good, study the Bentley carefully and do 
the '72 proceedure, which is quite different and quite complicated.

'72s are quite different from the other years, so ONLY the Bentley 
gives the correct '72 tuneup proceedure. All the other FI years are 
different, and they are pretty much the same as each other.

The basic '72 and '73 engines are mechanically identical. At least 
they were originally, but who knows whats in there now. It's clear 
that you have the '72 distributor and IAD, but how about the brain? 
Which one do you have?
