The usual thing they get wrong in the UK is calling it a 'Variant' Fastback,
because the Type 3 Squareback had the Variant name on the back. Then they
copied the name on the Type 4 Squareback too.  Newer Golf Wagons are also
shown as Variants in European VW literature, but I've not seen them badged
as such.

That works both ways Mike. I've had my fastback calla a squareback before
too.
