Subject: Re: [T3] New pump different hic-ups

I've had problems with sticking injectors several times over the
years. Sometimes it clears itself and sometimes not. Usually I can
get everything working so I can drive by doing the following:

Start the engine. Note that it's just running on 3 cylinders because
one cylinder is flooded. To get around this, with the engine running,
reach under the dash and carefully wiggle the white plastic plug
slowly off the back of the fuel pump relay. Do this slowly, until you
hear the "click" from the relay indicating that it's not running the
pump any more. Hold the plug still while the fuel system pressure
slowly decreases as the engine continues to idle.

At some point, the pressure will drop to the point where the flooded
cylinder will clear itself. This is usually accompanied by the idle
speed rising slightly, just before the engine dies from lack of fuel.

If you still have the plug in the right position, push it back on the
relay. If you time it right, the engine will begin to idle on all 4
cylinders and you can drive normally. This all takes some
coordination and practice, but I've been doing it off and on since
1968 and quickly learned how to do it while still sitting in the
driver's seat.

Try it.
