Yes, HD has used DOT-5 for quite a few years. This sounds like a 
promising alternative. Do you know what kind of pinout the HD switch 
has? Even if it's just a simple 2-pin switch, it might still be 
possible to make a simple logic circuit that would accomplish the OG 
3-pin function.
