[T3] 73 T3 IRS rear bearings?

Mine went at 180K.  They might have lasted longer
but one of the nuts worked loose, wouldnt stay tight after that
until I replaced the bearings and some other hub stuff.

They have another 170K on them now, still seem fine.

VW recommended regreasing those bearings every 30,000 miles, but 
that's such a big job that I stopped doing it in the mid-70s. I 
figured if a bearing failed I would do it then and just replace the 
bearing, even though those bearings, especially the roller bearing, 
are expensive.

In 40 years, I've never had to do any maintanence of any kind on one 
of those bearings. I'm sure it happens, but it must be extremely 
rare.
