[T3] fan rubbing something

Anyone got spare fan shims?  I put in a gasket and one shim, as I had taken those off, but it’s in a new case, so all bets are off.

I used new screws and lactate on the shroud attachment, so I doubt it’s that.  Any other suggestions of why I have something rubbing in the shroud area after my rebuild?

I broke it in for 20 minutes but the rattly scarping noise needs attention.  I didn’t hear or feel anything on the engine stand, but I gotta pull the shroud off and have a listen with a rubber hose during a short engine run.  I can hear it through the fender cooling slots FAR more loudly than above the engine, so I know it’s not bearings and such.

Anyone had fan interference issues?  Did you have to shim the shroud itself?

Lacking the VW tool, I eyeballed the front shroud for concentricity, which always worked for me in the past.

Never had this issue before.
