Good luck with that, Soren. I believe even Berg was unable to find 
them 20 years ago. Nevertheless, someone may have one sitting in his 
basement for all these years.

Berg also did a writeup on how to take a used belt sander to a belt 
grinder and carefully sand down the body to take out any end play. If 
you do this with the gears installed, that will keep you from going 
too far. Installing the gasket will give you the necessary running 
clearance. Of course, this will do nothing for the side clearance, 
but that is seldom a problem, except for excess side clearance where 
the shaft passes thru the body. I suppose that could be sleeved, but 
that's a rather extreme measure.

I have a number of pump covers that I have milled and run on a 
surface grinder to remove wear there, but I'm afraid all of them have 
8 mm holes.

Note that the shaft is a press fit in the gear, so you need to check 
to make SURE the tang fits suitably in the cam gear: not too deep, 
not too shallow. It can be pressed in or out to get a perfect fit. 
And make sure the tang was machined symmetrically. I got a bad one 
from Berg many years ago. Berg replaced it without comment, but it 
still caused an extra teardown of that engine.

And finally, one more note on oil pumps: VW didn't always put the 
inlet and outlet holes in exactly the same places. Believe it or not, 
it's possible to install an oil pump whose inlet hole does not match 
up with the passage in the case. That makes for a perfect looking 
installation that pumps NO oil. This is something you MUST check when 
assembling an engine.
