[T3] Front Beam Stabilizer Question

The spot of rust seems to have been on one of the torsion bars - not sure
what the grey blotchy area on the (thinner) stabilizer bar is. VW say any
missing paint should be recoated. I would simply use some red oxide primer
if you have some, or other metal primer if not. It will reduce the rate of
further corrosion, and you'll probably never get to a point wwere it will
break. I had a Beetle rear torsion bar break on me years ago, and the only
one I could get to replace it was very pitted. It hasn't broken yet, so I
think there's a fair reserve of strength. Obviously a rust spot may act as
a stress concentration point, but it could be decades before there's further
problems. If you have an unblemished spare, you could swap them if you feel
it's worth the work.

Subject: [T3] Front Beam Stabilizer Question

After Keith's tech session at the invasion, I started in on a couple beam
rebuilds that I had been putting off. One of the Stabilizer bars that I
removed had a small rust spot on it. I cleaned it up and it now looks as
shown in this picture:

1) Is this small spot significant?

2) What is a good "near to OEM" material to recoat this spot on the
Stabilizer Bar.

Thanks.
