Ive done 60 in 3rd but dont generally go beyond 55,
Ive had it up to 5500 but as noisy as it is at this mileage
Ill bet she'd blow!

According to the 1972 owner's manual:

1st gear 0-15 mph
2nd gear 10-35 mph
3rd gear 20-55 mph
4th gear 30 mph and up. 

They also note that for "a brief period only" you can accelerate up to 43
mph in second gear and 60 mph in third gear. 

But then, how accurate is your speedometer? :-)
