Please give all the tyres a good inspection - the ones we ran to the 2002
invasion were decent back then, though I seem to recall we had to swap a
couple that were rotted to get a good set.  Even Michelin XZX have a finite
life (Ive a pair on the front of my Variant from quite a few years ago).
I'll try to remember to look at the date codes tomorrow.

Invasion prep update:

'69 Squareback, last driven just after driving to the 2002 Invasion and
back.

Did some more work today. Had to overhaul the gas gauge sender to get the
gas gauge to work. Now that works just fine. I may also take the speedo
apart to replace its broken needle, but that's for another time. Other than
that, everything (speedo, gas, clock, radio) on the dash now works  

Cleaned out the water drain holes in the bottoms of the doors. 
Important since that car is sitting out in the rain we've been having.
Yesterday I cut magnetic sheets to cover the louvers so crap wouldn't get in
there while it was parked.

I had one tire that was thumping, so today I swapped in a different
wheel/tire. Now it's thump-free.

Thought I'd get started on replacing the muffler, since that's an awful job
I really hate. Discovered that it was just a few small holes and nothing
really serious, so most of them are now plugged with muffler putty. The last
ones need more serious attention which I'll do at a friend's place, up on a
lift. Should be relatively easy.
