[T3] type3-vwtype3.org Digest, Vol 74, Issue 12

That's about the same way I do in on my 73 FI . I usually place a spark
plug black colored thread chaser I fit in a 13/16" deep socket and use the
socket by hand to run the chaser in just to clear out the threads of any
carbon that I might have dragged up from the end of the old plug then with
all 4 out turn the engine over with the starter to blow them out . The spark
plug socket I use is an old snap on which has the rubber ridged inset that
holds the plug steady and use that with the 1/4" to 1/2: adapter after a bit
of anti-seize to start the plugs , turn the adapter by hand then finish with
the 1/4" ratchet and just snug up till I feel the crush washer hit then a
bit more.
