[T3] No reversing lights

There was a lower trim spec Fastback 1600T around 67, but my experience has
been mainly with the 70-on long front. Only rarely do we see the
L/TL/TLE/LE
de luxe trim versions. Considering the price of the more basic model, in
some countries, we were 'ripped off'. It was another company importing them
and profiting from us. The Squareback load area panels were cut from vinyl
coated masonite (hardboard UK) rather than wrapped in vinyl. Vent wings
were aluminium painted, no waist trim except most FI cars had it anyway. No
clock, just a bezel filler, no trip mileometer, no glovebox lock, no map
pockets in door cards, only one ashtray in the back, and no centre arm-rest
in the Fastback or Notch, some specs only mention a driver side sun-visor!

I think a customer could order the higher spec, but the stock vehicles were
the lower trim.

Now for a confession, I've bought a 2 year old Golf SV with a 1.2 (1197) TSI
gas engine and a DSG auto box, having had such great mpg from our hired
Jetta last invasion. It's a lovely drive, lets me rest my clutch leg after a
lifetime of pushing down on VW clutch pedals! Brisk eough, and I got over
54mpg UK (43 US) on a rural journey the other day, and only a few less on
city roads, unless it's in stop-start traffic. It's called a SportsVan in
some countries, has more space than a Golf and a higher driving position,
plus some nice extras. The rear seat adjusts front to rear and is split
1/3:2/3, giving almost as much space as a Jetta wagon (Golf estate). The
DSG box has a sport mode to flick into, and can be used like a tiptronic
stick if you really want. There's no handbrake, a hill-hold button does it
for you! The icing on the cake is it's a Wolfsburg car. I'm loving it!
Anne's got the same engine downrated a bit in a NEW Polo (I'd never buy a
new car, but her Mum left her some money). It's also an auto DSG - well,
we're both getting older, and diesels are coming in for a lot of stick over
here. The Polo comes from South Africa, where they used to assemble Type
3s. So all change, and no change left!

UK, and no doubt other markets, didn't come with the reversing lights on the
basic trim - the switch, wiring and inline fuse, bulbs and holders weren't
fitted. Sounds like you may have a Frankenstein car, eh? Maybe the 1600
'A' model. Are the vent wings painted or bright?

Well, no wire with fuse in the engine bay and no wires to the switch on the
transmission. So, I guess I will have to make my own harness
